Brock University Graduate Student Senator, Nominee
| My name is Tochi Omah, and I am a first-year international MSc student in the Department of Health Sciences at Brock University. I completed my undergraduate degree in Medical Sciences with a focus on Biology here as well. I am applying for the Graduate Student Senate position because, like many of you, I have navigated Brock University and understand the effects of academic policies and programs embedded within the institution. I care deeply about how academic decisions are made and recognize how the outcomes directly impact us, the students. I have lived on and off campus and these perspectives showed me how student experiences are shaped across different living situations, work commitments and academic demands. This understanding was further informed by my undergraduate thesis on dietary habits and mental health, which examined Brock undergraduate students and gave valuable insight into university living. As a graduate student, I am especially aware of challenges related to meeting research deadlines, accessing funding and scholarships, while maintaining strong academic standards. Additionally, as an international student, my experiences have highlighted the intersection between academic policies, immigration requirements and institutional processes. These have shaped my listening skills, my ability to think and analyze graduate student concerns, as well as respond thoughtfully in academic decision-making. In the Senate, I will bring a clear student-centered voice to academic decision-making and advocate for high-quality, fair, and accessible graduate education at Brock. I would be honoured to serve you. |
