Vice President, Student Life and Equity Nominee
Words do not do justice in describing the emotions I feel towards serving my fellow Graduate students and the Brock community. Given my journey in the last six months, I find it a great privilege to contest for the position of Vice President Student Life and Equity.
As a Nigerian international student, I have experienced both sides of the ‘community coin.’ I am amazed by the love and help I have received from everyone I encounter – people who want to help. However, in my first three months in Canada, I had limited access to opportunities because I failed to leverage the power of the collective. Strengthening the GSA’s sense of community is my capital motivation.
We would strengthen the GSA collective by adopting an agile three-step approach. First, we would improve the ease of entry into our community – EVERYONE would feel welcome. Upon fostering inclusion, we shall
optimize our communication channels by ensuring that everyone is appreciated when they contribute their opinions towards the advancement of our community – we must be heard. Finally, we would improve ourselves by equipping ‘us’ with lavished tools and information we need to build a successful postgraduate life. To continue the legacy of creating a stronger community we would depend on all Graduate students’ input.
I would also leverage my experience as a coordinator and coach of a diverse community football team.
WE ARE THE PEOPLE, and we must thrive. I want to contribute to maintaining a community where students
feel welcome and loved.
