Philip Akoje

Vice President, Student Life and Equity, Nominee

I am writing to express my interest in serving as the Brock University Graduate Student Association’s Executive Vice President, Student Life and Equity for the 2026-2027 session. I graduated from Brock University during the Fall 2024 convocation, with an MA in Studies in Comparative Literature and Arts (Distinguished Graduate Student), and I am currently a second-year PhD student in Interdisciplinary Humanities.

I have the rare privilege of representing Humanities Graduate Students as a GSA member of the Board of Directors for the 2024-2025 session and serving as Vice President, External and University Affairs for 2025-2026 session. The experience has enabled me to gain more insight and commitment to GSA’s vision.

As a Brock University Alumna and student, I have a profound understanding of the challenges of graduate students in balancing academic demands with personal, financial, and social responsibilities. My experiences as a GSA board member and in an executive position have equipped me to represent and advocate for graduate students’ needs both on campus and off campus.

I am particularly committed to initiating policy and to working with campus partners on food security, and to providing information to new graduate students through in-person and online engagements. If elected, I will pay more attention to shaping policies that help graduate students access the information needed for their academic success.

Thank you for considering my application.
